Learning about issues/trends through UNICEF

The specific section of information that was relevant to me in my professional development on the UNICEF website was the research and reports section. This is because as a life long learner there is always new information and data to learn about the field of early childhood education. This means that research and reports help me to develop into a more knowledgeable educator.
There was a new article on the website that stated information about the lack of technology in countries around the world and how it effects children and their education. It made me think about technology in a new way, here in America, we really do not think twice about the technology we have. We use it for fun, and also in education as a form of learning and doing homework, and also keeping up with the teacher. The lack of technology gives children the lack of connecting with others and learning. This becomes a disadvantage to them because technology is one way for a voice to be heard (UNICEF, 2018).
UNICEF has become, "the world's leading advocate for children's rights" (UNICEF, 2018), being so, there was a series called, Advancing early childhood development: from science to scale. This series was done by neuroscientists to show that lack of nutrition equals a lack/stunt in the child's growth. They were trying to prove that a combination of good health and nutrition, along with positive attention from their caregiver helps children in the long run by helping the child develop a strong foundation.

  1. Angela,
I have enjoyed reading your blog post this week. Thank you for providing us with very detail information which we can use as resources as well. I agree with you that as educators and life long learners this information is valuable because it keeps us up to date on issues within the early childhood field. I also agree with you when it comes to the topic of technology since it is accessible for us we don't think of other countries that have to go through great lengths to have access to technology or have nothing at all. I don't know about you, but as I read more and more about what other countries don't have it makes me think that sometimes we take certain things for granted as well. I look forward to learning more from UNICEF through you.
