Exploring Roles in the ECE Community

1.     Division for Early Childhood of the Council for Exceptional Children
2.     National Association for the Education of Young Children
3.     National Head Start Association

I chose these 3 organizations because they all were important in the field of early childhood education. The national head start associations mission is to, “give every vulnerable child an opportunity to succeed.” This is done by providing after school care, and programs to help children thrive and become successful. I knew a lot of students in my high school that went to head start after school, and they would do homework and receive homework help from volunteers. This job is appealing to me because it is important to be educators outside of the classroom, not only during school hours. Sometimes a child comes home and does not understand what was taught in the classroom, but tutors are costly. Using resources wisely can help a child to receive better grades and be able to grow and learn new subjects easier.

The division for early childhood of the council for exceptional children was appealing to me because it is important to be sensitive to and understand children with varying abilities or special needs. In doing more research on the website, I was able to find a link to professional development and ways that an educator or anyone can learn more about how to become more aware and learn how to work professionally with children who are special needs. They offer conferences, and also ways to learn at home so that one may be more knowledgeable.

The national association for the education of young children appealed to me because it really helps an educator to build a strong community of practice with resources provided to help an educator be more up to date with the field of education.

  1. I enjoyed reading your blog, I like the fact that you chose Head start. The after school care provided is phenomenal. You state tutors can be costly, thus having someone to assist with homework in the case of the child did not comprehend is commendable.

I think that is fantastic that organizations exist that offer children with afterschool and enrichment opportunities that will help them to develop successfully. In my community many children benefit from the National Head Start program. Early interventions and programs are key when ensure children develop successfully.
